Moving from San Diego to Cabot has been a journey. Honestly, it’s been a pretty big shift. Back in Southern California, I had built this world where people knew my name. I was constantly photographing love, telling stories, living in that sweet spot of passion and purpose. And then suddenly, I was somewhere new, where no one really knew what I did or who I was. That part’s been humbling. Like starting from scratch, but with all this creative energy still buzzing inside me.
So when I got the chance to photograph a downtown Tulsa engagement session, I can’t even explain how excited I was. It felt like a little piece of home. There was this beautiful mix of charm and character that made me fall in love with storytelling all over again. Especially near The Mayo Hotel. Something about that area just clicked. It had that old-school romance energy that makes you want to grab your camera and chase the light.
Kendyl and Gabe made it so easy too. The way they laughed, the way they looked at each other, it wasn’t posed or planned. It just was. We wandered around downtown for their engagement session, capturing those little unscripted moments that feel like the heartbeat of a relationship. And the light that day wrapped around them like a soft hug. Everything felt right.
One photo stands out in my mind. They’re running across the street. It’s a little blurry, a little chaotic, but it’s my favorite. It’s imperfect in the most perfect way. And I guess it reminded me of life. Of love. How things don’t have to be perfectly in focus to be beautiful. Sometimes, it’s the messy, in-between moments that say the most.
That downtown Tulsa engagement session filled a part of me I didn’t even realize had gone quiet. It reminded me why I fell in love with photography in the first place. This job isn’t always easy, but it’s moments like this. These real, soul-deep moments. They make it all worth it.
If you’re dreaming about your own engagement session in downtown Tulsa, especially near The Mayo, I’d love to be the one to capture it for you. Whether you’re from here or just passing through, your story matters. And it deserves to be told in a way that feels honest, beautiful, and true to who you are.
Let’s make some magic together. I’d love to hear your story.
