A Moment I Have Carried With Me
I have been thinking about this moment for years.
Photographing my own daughter’s Woodinville high school senior session was something I quietly held onto long before it ever became real. Back when I was just getting started as a high school senior photographer in Oklahoma, I already knew this day would come.
That season of my business was where everything began for me. It taught me how to see girls at this age, not just how they look, but who they are becoming.
And all along, I knew this day would come.
My Daughter, Lilli
Lilli is my oldest daughter, and loving her has shaped me in more ways than I can explain.
As a Taurus mother with a Virgo daughter, there is a steadiness between us that has always felt grounding. She is thoughtful, observant, and deeply rooted in who she is. Because of that, she carries herself with a quiet strength that doesn’t need to be loud to be felt.
Over the years, I’ve watched her grow in a way that feels steady and real. Not rushed. Not forced. Just becoming.
Somewhere along the way, she became a young woman I deeply admire, not only as her mother, but as a person.
A High School Journey That Shaped Her
This Woodinville high school senior session holds so much more than images. It holds her story.
In 2022, we moved back to Oklahoma after her stepdad retired from the U.S. Navy, and she began her freshman year at Bethel High School. Shortly after, that winter brought another move, this time to Cabot, Arkansas, where she started her sophomore year. While she was there, her cheer team went on to win the state championship, a moment that meant so much after everything she had already navigated.
Then, in the summer of 2023, life shifted again. Another opportunity came up, and we relocated to Washington.
With that came a new school, new friendships, and another beginning.
Even though each move brought change, she continued to show up. Again and again. And because of that, she has developed a kind of resilience that not everyone sees right away.
It is quiet. It is steady. But it is powerful.
Her Senior Session in Woodinville
We photographed her senior portraits here in Seattle and Woodinville, surrounded by soft fields and golden light that felt calm and open. There was an ease to the way she moved, a presence that can’t be directed or forced.
As the light shifted, we moved into the trees where everything became more still and grounded. The light filtered through in a way that felt reflective, like a pause before what comes next.
This is what I look for in every senior session.
Not perfection. Not performance.
Presence.
If You’re a Senior or a Mom Reading This
If you are reading this and seeing your daughter in even a small part of this story, I want you to know this is exactly why I photograph seniors the way I do.
Most seniors come into their session feeling a little unsure. They don’t know how to pose. They don’t know what to do with their hands. They worry about looking awkward.
That is completely normal.
It is not your job to know how to do any of this.
It is mine.
I guide every part of the session in a way that feels natural and relaxed, so nothing ever feels forced or uncomfortable. What you see here is not about being “good in front of the camera.” It is about being present and being seen in a way that feels real.
And for the moms, I know how fast this season goes. I am in it with you. These images become more than just photos. They become something you hold onto.
A Little About How I Photograph This Season
Photographing my own daughter brought me back to why I started.
I have spent years working with high school seniors, learning how to read their energy, how to create space for them to feel comfortable, and how to bring out what is already there rather than trying to create something that isn’t.
Every session is guided, but never forced.
Soft direction. Real moments. Natural light.
Images that feel like them, not like a version of them trying to be something else.
Let’s Plan Something That Feels Like You
This session will always mean more to me than I can fully put into words.
But it also reminded me why this work matters so much.
If you are a high school senior in Woodinville or the Seattle area and you are wanting a session that feels natural, comfortable, and true to who you are, I would love to create something meaningful with you.
Senior sessions are limited each season to make sure every client gets a fully guided and intentional experience, and dates tend to book in advance.
