This romantic San Diego engagement session with Lindsay and Ryan was the perfect blend of historic architecture, cozy cocktail bar vibes, and genuine connection. From Balboa Park to Polite Provisions, their session felt effortlessly elegant and deeply personal.
I have known Lindsay for over five years. In that time she has been one of the most talented wedding coordinators I have ever had the privilege of working alongside. She has seen it all. Incredible weddings, top tier vendors, and some truly amazing photographers. So when she reached out and asked me to photograph her wedding and engagement session, I was genuinely shocked and completely honored. It meant more than she probably knows.
Lindsay and Ryan’s love story goes all the way back to high school. There is something so special about growing up together. Sharing life and knowing each other through different seasons is meaningful. Their engagement story is just as sweet and real. Ryan had carefully planned the proposal for Lindsay’s birthday weekend. However, life had other plans when she came down with the flu. Plans shifted on the fly, but he still pulled off a beautiful proposal at Balboa Botanical Garden. Close friends secretly waited nearby to celebrate and capture the moment. The night ended in the best way possible. Comfort food, time at home, and the kind of quiet joy that feels like exhaling.
For their engagement session, they wanted something that felt moody, romantic, and a little airy all at the same time. They gravitate toward architectural spaces, museums, and cozy bar settings. Additionally, they love the idea of speakeasy inspired photos. It only made sense to start at Balboa Park and then end the evening tucked inside the warm, intimate atmosphere of Polite Provisions.
As the evening light softened around the historic architecture of Balboa Park, they slipped into an easy rhythm together. Walking hand in hand, leaning into each other, sharing little private smiles. Later, inside the cozy glow of Polite Provisions, the mood shifted into something a little more intimate and cinematic. A drink in hand, warm light all around them, and that unmistakable feeling of being completely at ease with the person beside you.
What meant the most to them was simply having photos that show their love. They shared that they do not often take the time to capture images together. As a result, they wanted this session to reflect how they really feel when it is just the two of them. That is exactly what we created. Romantic, a little moody, a little playful, and completely them.
Lindsay and Ryan, it is such a gift to not only photograph your love story, but to stand beside you in this season as your photographer after so many years of working together in the wedding world. I cannot wait for your wedding day this Friday. It is going to be incredible.
